What a week of compliance operations tells us about public transport enforcement
Source: SAnews.gov.za · originally published
Roadside enforcement is most effective when it checks several things at once: vehicle condition, driver credentials and outstanding infringements.
What was reported
According to SAnews, the Gauteng Transport Inspectorate and the Road Traffic Management Corporation ran targeted operations in Johannesburg and Tshwane from 16 to 22 February 2026, removing unroadworthy minibuses and processing both manual and electronic infringement notices.
What we think matters
- Combined checks save officer time. One stop can cover roadworthiness, licensing and infringements.
- Electronic processing reduces rework. Capturing notices digitally at source cuts the data-entry backlog afterwards.
- Consistency builds compliance. Regular, predictable operations change behaviour more than occasional blitzes.
Reliable handheld and roadblock tools, and clean data capture, are what let a week like this translate into lasting compliance.
