Parking enforcement is a capacity and evidence problem

Illegal parking is more than an inconvenience: it blocks emergency access, pushes pedestrians into traffic and slows everyone down.

What was reported

Rekord reported in June 2026 that Tshwane Metro Police impounded about 1,100 vehicles in May for parking violations, and that the department says enforcement will continue.

What we think matters

  • Impounds are a blunt tool. They are resource-intensive, so authorities benefit from targeting hotspots with data.
  • Evidence needs to be consistent. Time-stamped, location-tagged records make later disputes easier to resolve.
  • Management beats reaction. Clear bay rules, signage and monitoring reduce the need for enforcement after the fact.

Connecting bay monitoring, plate recognition and infringement processing is where we see the most practical gains for municipal parking operations.
